Overlooked. Unloved. Invisible

Overlooked. Unloved. Invisible. These are the lies she would tell herself in the comfortable void of her bedroom at night. Far away from the loving embraces and conversations of friends and family. Like a bottomless pit, she was dragged into a false sense of reality about who she was.
.
Year after year, she sowed these seeds into the garden of her heart and mind. Until one day the beautiful flowers she had been tending to, were wilting and dying. To her dismay she found weeds strangling the life of each one. The weeds of those thoughts: Overlooked. Unloved. Invisible.
.
This is when she realised the pit she had fallen in and urgently needed to be pulled out. She began to pull out the weeds in her garden and be lifted out of the pit. She set on the journey of regaining her self-identity. Seen. Loved. Heard.
.
But that’s not the end of the story. The dark comfortable void still calls her name on those sleepless nights and the bottomless pit still beckons when hurt begins to seep in. Even though sometimes she slips and falls back down, instead of living there, she pulls herself back out and reminds herself of the truth. Seen. Loved. Heard.
.
The above story is a part of 'i am her', a series using storytelling to talk about common insecurities of young girls in our society. We hope that this will create a sense of community and allow young girls to feel understood and seen amongst the situations that we face.
